Calorie Calculator estimates how many calories you need each day to maintain, lose or gain weight. Enter your age, sex, height and weight in metric or in feet, inches and pounds, then choose one of five activity levels from Sedentary to Very active. It works out your basal metabolic rate (BMR) with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation, multiplies it by the activity factor to get your maintenance calories, and shows mild and moderate loss targets, two gain targets and an estimated BMI. Results update as you type and are calculated in your browser.

BMR, estimated BMI, maintenance calories and the loss and gain targets update as you type.
It estimates BMR with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation: 10 × weight in kg + 6.25 × height in cm − 5 × age, then +5 for men or −161 for women. That figure is multiplied by an activity factor from 1.2 (Sedentary) to 1.9 (Very active) to give maintenance calories.
BMR is the energy your body uses at complete rest. Maintenance calories add your daily activity on top, so they are roughly what you would eat to keep your weight steady.
The calculator shows a mild loss target 250 kcal below maintenance and a moderate loss target 500 kcal below, and never suggests fewer than 1,000 kcal. These are estimates, not medical advice — talk to a doctor or registered dietitian before a big change to your diet, especially if you are pregnant or have a health condition.
No. It is designed for adults aged 18 and over and shows a message instead of a result for younger ages, because growing bodies have different energy needs.
