Password Strength checks how well a password meets common composition rules, updating as you type. It runs six checks — at least 12 characters, at least 16 characters, upper and lowercase letters, a number, a symbol, and a variety check that flags heavy repetition — then scores the result out of six as Weak, Fair or Strong. Each check is marked Pass or Needs work, so you can see exactly what to change. It is a quick rule-based check rather than a cracking simulation: it doesn’t look up dictionary words or breached-password lists. The password is analysed in your browser and never sent anywhere.
Type a password
Enter it in the Password field. It is masked by default; press Show to see what you typed.
Read the checks
The bar and badge show Weak, Fair or Strong with a score out of 6, and each rule is marked Pass or Needs work.
Fix what fails
Add length first, then variety, and watch the score change. Load weak sample and Load strong sample show the contrast.
Length matters most: a long, unique passphrase is harder to guess than a short string full of symbols. Never reuse a password across services, and turn on two-factor authentication where you can.
Twelve characters is a sensible minimum for most accounts, which is why it is the first check. Sixteen or more gives a better margin for important accounts such as email or a password manager.
Yes. The checks look at length and character types only, so a predictable password such as a common word with a number and symbol added can still pass most of them. Avoid names, dictionary words and keyboard patterns, or use a password generator.
The check runs entirely in your browser, and nothing is stored or sent. Even so, testing a similar password rather than the exact one is a sensible habit with any online checker.
