Base64 Encode & Decode converts text to Base64 and back. Text is turned into UTF-8 bytes first, so emoji and non-English characters survive the round trip intact. Choose Standard output, or URL-safe, which swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding so the result can sit in a URL or filename. Decoding accepts either variant, ignores line breaks and adds missing padding for you, while Reverse using output flips the direction to check a round trip. Base64 is an encoding, not encryption: anyone can decode it. Conversion runs in your browser as you type, with nothing uploaded.

No. Base64 is a reversible encoding with no key, so anyone can decode it. To protect text with a passphrase, use Encrypt Text instead.
URL-safe Base64 (Base64URL) replaces + with - and / with _, and usually leaves off the = padding, so the string works in URLs and filenames. Both carry exactly the same data.
The input contains characters outside the Base64 alphabet. Spaces and line breaks are fine, but quotes, commas or a data: prefix copied along with the string are not, so remove them first.
This tool works with text. For pictures, use Image to Base64, which reads the image file and produces the encoded string for you.
